Can you pull in Leviathan with a fishhook

Can you pull in the Leviathan with a fishhook?
I get to take care of some of the CUTEST kiddos! I was lucky enough to spend valentines day with TWO sweet little valentines all day long. When I give my heart to my job I realize it also sometimes brings the breaking of my heart. Something I pray I do not become hardened to.
The strength these families show in the midst of such adversity! I am impressed and in awe. With Shane and Shane jammin in their baby's crib, I prayed that God would continue to supply them with strength, love, and patience.
I never really like the way that God seemed to belittle Job, and called him out. It felt kind of harsh.  Job was facing an unreal amount of heartache and was simply looking for an answer. I am continually doing this. Seeking God for some sort of answer for disease and heartache I see everyday.
Maybe God was not trying to say "Who do you think you are?"
Maybe it was more of a reminder of "Who do you think I am?"
Hey Job, look at all the stuff that I can do, and that I take care of. I can take this crazy Leviathan and put a ring in its nose and make it a pet. I can tackle giant enormous overwhelming obstacles bigger than that ole Behemoth. Everything under heaven belongs to me! You are not responsible. You do not have to carry THE BURDEN of responsibility here. It is mine. It is bigger than you. It is mine. And I can do it!
What a relief.
Thankfully my God can pull in the Leviathan with a fishhook.

HR Week High Five Moments

1. Discovering I can wear TCH T-shirts with my scrub bottoms. Pajamas basically. I will wear pajamas to work while the rest of the world puts on their business casual. I came home yesterday and Jon thought I was wearing a Track suit. I get to wear a royal blue track suit to work.
2. My Benefits = Free Baby. ok. That does not sound right. But basically the hospital (as long as I go to TCH/St. Lukes) is free -100% covered- when you have a baby. Steal of deal... even better than the rug from the last blog. End the rumor before it starts: I DO NOT NEED THIS SERVICE YET! I am just thinking of future baby. Sorry Mom and Kelli, didn't mean to get anyone excited. Take a moment to regroup if you need to.
3. When introducing ourselves to the HR rep we were supposed to say our name and then the unit we have been assigned. For example I said, "Carly, rocking the PICU." urggggh... I know. Word vomit. See what I am talking about with the awkwardly trying too hard to be cool.
But the story gets better. One girl said, "{her name}, acute care." A concern and confused look overcame the face of our HR lady and she emphatically responded "of course I care!" I could not hold back my annoyingly loud gasps for air as I laughed. No...... Don’t get it yet? She heard "do you care?” instead of “acute care.” If you saw how surprised and perplexed the HR women looked you would see the funny here. Once again, it is the simple things that make me happy.
4. My fist bump with Mark Wallace. Thanks to new friend crush Adrienne A for making that happen. Mark Wallace is the CEO of TCH. Adrienne called him over (see why the crush) when we saw him walking in the lobby. He wished us good luck in our new jobs by offering our small group some celebratory high-fives. Except when it was my turn I guess he wanted to mix-it–up a little because I got a “pound it” then he politely asked permission if it was ok for him to “blow it up” which of course I answered, “YES, let’s blow it up.” Maybe next time I will teach him the “jelly fish”.

Movin' right along

Being a School nurse was…….

School nursing was a time…..

The thing about being a school nurse…..

When I look back at school nursing……

OK School nursing was simply not for me!! J I really do not know what else to say. Eventually, the teachers started being nice, I finally got added to the staff e-mail list so I wouldn't awkwardly show up in my crazy socks when they had changed it to "Crazy Hat Day", and the one Christmas card I got from a little boy who took an inhaler every day was slightly encouraging. But overall, this is not what I pictured I would be doing when I decided to be a nurse.

First off- I should NOT complain! I was very lucky to score the gig in the first place. Thank you Jan Jones at Health Services! Telling her I was leaving was hard because I felt like an ungrateful tiddy-babby. Without this I would have been doing nothing, or settled for job with a major contract and would not be able to tell you my big news:

I will soon be a nurse on PICU at TEXAS CHILDREN'S HOSPITAL! MMMM that feels so good to say, type, or get up and doing a little jig to. Am I scared?…… uh yeah! I have been sitting in a school all year taking temperatures and screening vision….I am terrified! Bonus news alert:

It’s the GN program! Meaning I get paired up with a fellow nurse to work with for the first 20 weeks. This news was like zofran for my nauseous stomach. Can I repeat how awesome this is?!? THIS IS AWESOME!

As usual, I am also tripping into a little Guilt Coma. Am I abandoning these kids? Is leaving a pride issue? Where is my commitment? How will I face the staff after they find out?

I will hopefully quickly work through this and just get excited about how Jon and mine’s life keeps “Moving Right Along”!

Nothing soothes a nervous spirit quite like the Muppets!
